Best free and cool internet browsers – my favorites

Ever wondered how to browse the net faster? What is the best browser?

A lot of the windows users get stuck with Internet Explorer. Firefox is the most popular “other” option. Apple users use Safari and are quite happy with it, but I believe that for an average internet user or blogger the other following free options can fare better than all of the above. But we are ill informed, there are quite a few free browsers which take the cake for an internet user. Here is a list of them (review follows):

- K-melon

K-melon is the gecko layout engine based lightweight browser. Its extremely fast in loading and provides much faster browsing than a pimped up firefox. For web developers firefox plugins are essential, but they make browsing slowers and also take up a lot of CPU. I use k-melon for my normal browsing purposes.

- Opera

Opera is a great free browser. It provides great features such as zoom-in, customizable widgets etc. Although I have not found it as fast as K-melon and have seen the websites rendered rather differently in Opera.

- Firefox

Firefox ofcorse is a great browser with the only fault being its tendency to hang more often than IE (or am I exaggerating?). Firefox’s greatest features is the availability of its plugins which make browsing easier and fun. Almost all social bookmarking websites have firefox plugins available (just click and go). The web developers tool, color picker plugin and firebug are few of my favorites.

- Safari (for windows)

Yeah! Safari is now available for windows. I didnt know it till very recently. The performance is very similar to the MAC version.  I havent given it much try, but it does look blazing fast. It will be a great addition to websurfers. On a quick look it doesnt seem to have the amount of plugins compared to FireFox. The only good news for web developers is that they wont need access to a MAC to check how their website renders on Safari.

- Google Chrome (for windows at present)

Google has just come out with the new Chrome browser. Its open source and is very impressive. Here is the post I wrote about it: Google Chrome
